My Web Designer Journey

I remember when I first dwelled on the internet in my early teens, I was fascinated with the mere size and potential that it held. Naturally I was interested in gadgets, computers, and technology but the web always had a special place in my heart. In 1996, my mother purchased my first computer and I couldn’t contain myself as I knew the wealth of knowledge that I was about to embark on. I started to surf the web and research on how all the components of a computer work, soon I knew all the fancy acronyms that we are so familiar with today, RAM, GHz, PCU, Hard drive, etc. Soon after, I built my first computer composed of spare parts that I collected from local shops around town. This was only the beginning.

Once in college, due to my interest in computers and the business world, I was indecisive in selecting my major. I wanted the best of both worlds! So when I heard about Management Information Systems I knew it was the choice for me. I simply adored my MIS classes, my first being a Visual Basic class. I was completely intrigued on syntax and code, and like many things that are related to the web design the versatility in its problem solving abilities. Through logic and certain syntax rules there were many ways to solve a problem or are the saying goes, "many ways to skin a cat". The knowledge that I gained from all my classes was essential and prepared me for the adventure to come. When I graduated from Auburn University in 2005 I was both nervous and excited about the “real world”.

Shortly after college, armed with a new way of problem solving and thinking I wanted to research further into the web design. Although I had many classes about writing applications, the System Developmental Life cycle and database design and structures there still wasn’t anything concrete that focused into web design. I knew the fundamentals that went into building a web page but I strived to create the beautiful sites that I saw throughout the web. I started experimenting with Adobe Photoshop by creating web layouts, graphics, and Logos. During this period is where I truly learned the beauty of the web. I learned to create beautiful web pages using new CSS techniques and web compliant features. I felt enlighten in a sense. I was working for a trading company at the time and my boss wanted a new image for his business. Soon after, I started to implement my new skills into creating a company logo and identity as well as a company web site. I was immediately promoted to the company web master! After all these years of hopes and aspirations my dream finally became reality...... the journey continues.....more to come!
